Santa Monica Pulse February 2026

This month’s Santa Monica Pulse asked residents their opinion on a potential ballot measure backed by labor union UNITE HERE Local 11. The potential ballot measure would convert land from Santa Monica Airport into several thousand low-income housing units. Those polled overwhelmingly rejected the Local 11-backed plan. 80.5% of respondents said they would oppose this ballot measure, with 72.7% saying they strongly opposed it. Just 18.8% of respondents strongly or somewhat supported the measure.

We also asked residents how they would vote on the potential “billionaire tax” ballot initiative that was filed by labor union SEIU-UHW earlier this year. 70.5% of respondents said they opposed this measure, while 24.4% supported it. Just 5.1% said that they had no opinion.

Finally, we asked residents their opinion on a City Council plan to open new homeless facilities in Pico and Sunset Park. An overwhelming majority of respondents opposed this proposal. 79.2% of respondents said they were opposed to the City Council’s plan. Just 19.5% supported the potential new facilities.
