Santa Monica Pulse May 2022

Primary elections are coming up in Santa Monica, but our latest poll suggests residents aren’t sold on any particular candidates when it comes to who should be the next District 3 County Supervisor. In our latest Santa Monica Pulse, more than 70 percent of respondents said they weren’t sure or weren’t voting for the six candidates on the ballot. Of those who chose a candidate, the majority picked Bob Hertzberg. Still, that accounted for just 10 percent of those polled.

We also asked residents to weigh in on the city’s new Attorney Doug Sloan. When asked how confident they were that Sloan would help solve the issues of crime, homelessness and overdevelopment in the city, 33 percent of respondents said they weren’t confident. Only three percent said they were very confident, and 13 percent said somewhat confident. The majority (50 percent) said they weren’t sure.

However, our polling suggests residents are feeling confident about City Councilmember Phil Brock’s proposal to replace Downtown safety ambassadors with security guards and round-the-clock police patrols. A whopping 84 percent said they believe this would help decrease crime. Only eight percent said it would not help decrease crime, and about six percent were unsure.
